The pretty young Franziska is given into the care of the sinister countess, still without any idea of the strict rules in their remote estate. Side by side with the nun, the Countess's favourite toy, the delicate young lady enjoys a strict education and is introduced to the Comtesse's strange games. She stretches strings on the naked bodies of her toys and thus creates an instrument of her dark passion: a living harp, on the strings of which she plucks and plays to the sound of the wailing, tender voices of her maids. But this is by no means the last play of the "Countess of Tears".
